Dutch, for sure is not an easy language for English speakers- they simply just are not able to pronounce those throaty, guttural sounds on which Dutch children are weaned. Sentence structure is awkwardly reversed and the grammars are not always following the rules. If your native language is similar to Dutch, or you’ve studied a parallel language, you’ll be one step ahead of others.
Decide whether you would prefer to follow an established course or take private lessons. The Netherlands has a national network of language institutes that offer courses in Dutch for foreigners. (Usually these courses are referred to as NT2, Nederlands als tweede taal – Dutch as a second language.) If you are coming to Netherlands for studying, ask your school if they offer any Dutch courses for foreign students.
